Abstract
Alexander gives a laymen's description of Haleakala Crater and its rock formations. He made a map of the crater (not shown in the article). As to the origin of the crater, Alexander concludes that "this is a real terminal crater, and not merely "a deep gorge open at the north and east," or a caldera. "I leave the final assessment to the geologists."
