The article by Ma and others (p. 582–630) presents new LA-ICPMS U-Pb zircon age data that tracks the tectonic formation and emplacement of the most southern Taconic arc terrane exposed in the Appalachians. The new data indicate that the Dadeville arc and its companion back-arc basin originally formed in the Tennessee embayment and was subsequently transported to the Alabama promontory along orogen-parallel shear zones associated with Acadian-Neoacadian transpressional convergence. Results provide a new palinspastic view of the Taconian orogeny in the southern Appalachians.
