In this issue Ibarra and others (2019) quantify the unidirectional role of land plant evolution on silicate weathering by combining reactive transport approaches for both continental weathering and the terrestrial hydrologic cycle. Ibarra and others (2019) show that deep-rooted plants act to modulate weathering fluxes and strengthen the silicate weathering feedback by increasing vapor recycling to continental interiors and increasing weathering zone solute concentrations due to increased soil CO2.
