Figure 14 by Michael Dorais from article by Dorais and others, this issue, p. 990–1018. A model for the geology of northern New England following the Taconic/Salinic orogenies (after van Staal and de Roo, 1995; Rankin and others, 2007). Slab rollback formed the extensional Connecticut Valley – Gaspé Trough and allowed asthenospheric upwelling and partial melting to generate the Frontenac Formation basalts at about 432 Ma. Subsequently, slab breakoff generated the younger Commerford Intrusive Suite and other mafic rocks between 423–419 Ma.
