Abstract
Observations on the mechanics of solifluction downslope of a late snow patch on a stream bank similar to many in central Norway lead to the conclusion that the process is not analogous to soil creep caused by increase in water content over an impermeable layer. Much of the loss of strength is due to reduction in the cohesion component of frost-heaved soil.
