Comparison of 54 long profiles of pediments shows that neither variations in the size of tributary drainage basins nor differences in bedrock lithology are the controlling factor determining variations of gradient. Tectonic tilting or warping, or repeated pedimentation may possibly be the explanation for slope differences.
